Synesthesia Spectrum is an annual collaborative event presented by composers and artists from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), two of Baltimore’s leading institutions in music and visual arts. Held in the heart of the city, the Synesthesia Show serves as a premier platform for interdisciplinary innovation, blending the worlds of sound and visuals to create an immersive artistic experience.

This annual showcase highlights the rich cultural fabric of Baltimore, emphasizing diversity and inclusion, with a particular focus on the contributions of Asian artists. By uniting artists, students, and audiences, the Synesthesia Show celebrates the transformative power of collaboration and creative expression.

Our Team

Yoonjung Lee
Co-Director / Founder

Composer Yoonjung Lee builds her own musical world by approaching everyday subjects from a fresh perspective. She is actively engaged in her work across the United States, Europe, and Korea. She has collaborated with various orchestras and ensembles including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Parker Quartet, and Peabody Symphony Orchestra. She won first prize at the New York International Composition Competition and received awards at the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival, the Sejong Symphonic Band Competition, and the Korean Piano Duo Association Competition. Her works have been premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York, Château de Fontainebleau in France, and Viitasaari Theatre in Finland. She was recognized by New Jersey State Senator Loretta Weinberg for her contribution to cultural exchange. As the founder and artistic director of the Maryland-based collaborative project “Synesthesia Spectrum,” she is dedicated to highlighting contemporary Asian artists. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she also works as a music theory assistant and professional study assistant.

Dooree Kang
Co-Director

is a multidisciplinary artist born in South Korea and currently based in Baltimore, USA. Working across painting, installation, video, and performance, she investigates inner landscapes of memory, emotion, and desire, creating immersive experiences that invite reflection on human perception and vulnerability. Kang’s practice explores the interplay of space, form, and materials, using interdisciplinary approaches to capture fleeting impressions, afterimages, and the layered textures of psychological experience. Her work has been shown in exhibitions including Beasts in the Rain; Post Hit-and-Run at New Uncanny Gallery, NY, Veiled Form at Bogus Gallery, Baltimore, MD, and Exceeds Expectations Extra Credit: Asia North 2025 at SNF Parkway Theater. She was featured in her MFA thesis exhibition at Meyerhoff Gallery, and was selected for the 16th Young Blood MFA Retrospective at Maryland Art Place, where she also presented an artist talk. Kang earned her MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art and has received awards including the Gold-Stern Emerging Artist Award, Doug Frost Fund at MICA, the Morris Louis Endowed Scholarship, and the Mount Royal Community Endowed Fellowship.
